ROCKPORT RESIDENT CHARGED WITH POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
[CORPUS CHRISTI] – John Ryan Johnson, 31, of Rockport, TX has been charged in a seven count indictment with receipt, distribution and possession of child pornography, United States Attorney Don DeGabrielle announced today.
Johnson was arrested at a fast food restaurant in Rockport where he worked. He appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Brian Owsley this afternoon, and has been ordered temporarily detained pending the outcome of a formal detention hearing on Monday, April 2, 2007 at 10:00 a.m.
The first count of the indictment charges Johnson with receiving and distributing images of minor female engage in sexually explicit conduct via the internet between November 2006 and February 2007. A conviction for this offense carries a statutory minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years imprisonment. The remaining six counts charge Johnson with possessing computer graphic images -- photographs and videos -- which had been transmitted via the internet depicting minor males and females engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Johnson is alleged to have possessed the child pornography in February 2007. Each of the possession of child pornography charges carries a maximum punishment of ten years imprisonment. Each count also carries a $250,000 fine.
The investigation leading to the indictment in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Corpus Christi Police Department with the assistance of the Aransas County Sheriff’s Office and the Rockport Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lance Duke.
