Update on Incident at 3719 Canal Street
April 28, 2007 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 3719 Canal Street about 4:30 p.m. on February 13.
The suspect, identified as Dunte Lamond Oveal (b/m, DOB 1-19-87), is
charged with murder in the 228th State District Court. He was arrested
on Thursday (Apr. 26) without incident.
The victim, Carlos Cantu, 20, of 6323 Hall Pond in Katy, Texas,
suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants T. Huynh and A. Semmelrock reported:
Mr. Cantu was driving his vehicle when he abruptly pulled into the
parking lot at 3719 Canal Street. The suspect, Oveal, exited the passenger's
side door and walked around the front of the vehicle, to the driver's side
door. The suspect then fired one shot into the driver's side window,
striking Cantu in the head. Oveal then fled on foot.
