BEXAR COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY INDICTED BY GRAND JURY

San Antonio, Texas; May 18, 2006: Bexar County District Attorney Susan D. Reed announced today that upon her presentation to a Grand Jury an indictment was returned against 15 year Bexar County Sheriff's Deputy Robert Gallegos, age 44. The Grand Jury indicted Deputy Gallegos for Fabricating Physical Evidence, Tampering with a Governmental Record and Official Oppression.

These charges arise from an incident that occurred in August and September 2004. During this time Deputy Gallegos was assigned to the Narcotics Unit at the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. It is alleged he provided false information that was placed in an affidavit in support of a search warrant for a methamphetamine laboratory and distribution house.

Fabricating Physical Evidence is a 3rd Degree Felony that carries a range of punishment of 2 – 10 years imprisonment and a fine not to exceed $10,000. Tampering with a Governmental Record is a State Jail Felony that carries a range of punishment of 180 days - 2 years jail and a fine not to exceed $10,000. Official Oppression is a Class A Misdemeanor offense that carries a range of punishment of up to one year in jail and a fine not to exceed $4,000.

This case is pending in the 144th District Court. A trial date has not been set.
